In which I introduce the first of my new vlogging series, BookTalk, and discuss Half Bad by Sally Green.
NEW VLOG POST: “A Fresh Start”
So, this is my first blog post in a while! Seven weeks, actually. I’m sorry— I know I’ve been a bad blogger, but I’ve been really busy with other commitments, which made it very hard to find the time to blog, and— when I blog— I like it to be something (I hope!) of quality, rather than posting just to…post?
And so, for this post, I thought I would give you a quick update on the things that I’ve been doing, and what’s been happening.
First of all, at the beginning of this year, I wrote a middle grade novel. It had robots in it, and characters with cool names, but the plot still needs a lot of work doing on it. At the moment, it isn’t due to be published, but— perhaps— at some point, I might return to it. Apart from BONES ON THE SURFACE, I haven’t written anything for the middle grade audience since, and so I admit I did find it challenging, but I do think it helped to improve my writing. Sometimes you just have to step outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself.
After this, I wrote another novel, but— whilst I liked it— this book won’t be published, either. At least, not yet. I’m not going to say much more about it, because— in all honesty— there isn’t much more I can say about it! 🙂
Shortly after finishing this novel, I returned to an outline of a novel I had written, and I fully fleshed it out, chapter by chapter, and so now I am working on a new project. I’m very excited about this, because I’m enjoying working on it so, so much, and I’m even more excited because— if all goes to plan— it’s going to be published in a different way to my other books. Sadly, I can’t say too much about this, either, and it is going to be a long process, but keep tuned for more on this one!
And, for the last five weeks or so, I’ve been focusing my energy on making headway with the writing of the above novel— I’m currently halfway!— as well as some personal commitments that has taken up a lot of my time.
In addition to all of this, I’ve been sitting on another secret— so many secrets!— except this one is really, really exciting! Although I can’t say anything more about this one at the moment, I can tell you that on the 1st of July, I’ll be revealing this news that I’ve had to keep quiet since… January time. All that I can say is that it involves a book that I wrote and… and a screen?
Due to being very busy with all of the above, however, I have dropped doing book reviews for the time being. If you were following me at the beginning of this year, you’ll know that I was reviewing several books for a wonderful company named Reach For The Stars, who gave me the amazing opportunity to review books, as well as reviewing ARCs (advanced copies) of YA novels for larger publishers based in England and New York (!!!), but whilst this was very exciting, it was difficult to find the time to set aside for sitting down and reading/writing these reviews, in addition to writing blog posts, writing books, and reading the books that I wanted to read simply for enjoyment. Perhaps in the future, I’ll return to it, but for now, it just isn’t possible.
What else have I been doing? *ponders*
A-ha! In April I went skiing. I went to France, to the Alps, where I spent a week with family sliding around the mountains with strips of metal strapped to our feet, which was very fun. 🙂 Next month, I’m off to Turkey for two weeks, which I’m very excited for, and then in October, I’ll be heading off to Edinburgh in Scotland for nearly a week, both as a mini-holiday with friends, but also because I might be moving there next year! (I’m moving SOMEWHERE next summertime; I just don’t know where that somewhere is yet, which is another “thing” consuming a lot of my time at the moment!).
Talking of summer, I have a new novel for young adults coming out this summer. I’ve already revealed it over on the blog a few months ago now. It’s called TO BE AN UNKNOWN, and it’s due to hit shelves on August 16th, 2014. I’m very excited for it, and I can’t wait for you to meet Verity Cartmell and Hugo Parker! Currently, I have no details about a blog book tour or anything, but I’ll keep y’all updated if anything does come along. 🙂
Finally, I’ve also started vlogging over on YouTube. At the moment, I only have a small handful of videos uploaded, from earlier on this year, because I’ve been so busy, but from the very near future I’m planning on putting up more content, such as discussions on books, and just general other videos. Tomorrow I plan on filming a video where I’ll be discussing HALF-BAD by Sally Green, and— if I can get it edited in time- I’m hoping to get it uploaded by this weekend, which should be fun.
I do really enjoy watching other YouTubers/BookTubers, and so if you yourself have a channel on YouTube, then please leave a link to it down below in the comments, and I’ll be sure to come along, subscribe to your channel, and support you!
My own YouTube channel can be found simply by going to http://www.youtube.com/joshuajvlogs. 🙂
Anyway. That’s all for now! I now it’s been a slightly long post, but it’s been a not-so-slight amount of time since I last blogged, and so I just thought I would bring you back up to speed as to what has been happening.
Hopefully, I’ll succeed in carving out more time to be able to blog more, and— if not blogging— then vlogging!
That’s all for now,
Thank you for reading, and all the best,
