An Interview With… Jillian Stein!

Hello everybody! So, today on the blog we have the fabulous book blogger, Jillian Stein. Jill is the owner of, which was the blog that the front cover of SOULLESS was revealed on. It’s a wonderful blog so I really do recommend you go and check it out! But, for now, let’s here what Jill has to say:

1) What is the story of how you started book blogging?

Ah,yes…where it all began! Well, a gal I met through a close friend knew I was a huge book junkie and was running a bookblog. She emailed me one day asking if I would be interested in reviewing a book for her blog. I had NO idea what I was doing, but I figured I would give it a go! The advice she gave me is what I have used to write each of my reviews to this day…..just pretend you’re telling your best friend about the book! It’s the best advice I’ve ever gotten. I was with that blog for a little while. The gal decided she was going to pursue her dream of writing and I was thrilled for her and knew it was time to go out on my own. So, that leads me to today…with my own blog, growing every day and loving every minute of it.

2) So, have you always read, then?

Gah! I hate to admit it…but,no. I wanted to love to read. Really, REALLY wanted to love to read and envied those people who did. It just wasn’t me. I tried to find a genre I loved and along the way found a few books here and there I enjoyed, but there was never a “love” of reading. Then, when my son was in kindergarten six years ago, I found Twilight. I read that series in three days and I knew things were going to change. I had found my love of reading. Growing up, the Internet wasn’t a resource I had (yes, I am that old haha!) so finding recommendations based on what I had read wasn’t as easy as it is today. After finishing Twilight, I jumped online and found so many amazing book recs and I have been devouring books since then!

3) What do you enjoy the most about blogging?

I have met so many amazing people and authors since I started blogging and I can’t say that I would have had those chance is it wasn’t for the blog….so that definitely is the most enjoyable thing. Oh, and getting to read books before they release! I covet my advance copies and occasionally hug them….no joke! I think I’ve hugged my mailman a few times when he has advance reading copies of books for me.

4) Let’s talk about reviews– I assume writing good reviews isawesome, but what happens if you don’t like a book?

Ah, the dreaded “bad book”. Here’s my view on this topic: If I don’t like a book, I don’t feel that it automatically deserves a bad review from me. You will find many opinions on this in the blogger world (some of it quite nasty lately). There have been a few occasions where I have gotten half way into a book and just wasn’t connecting, so I emailed the author letting him/her know and that I didn’t feel it was fair to write a review because of the lack of connection and I didn’t write a review. In cases like that, I feel that just because I wasn’t connecting doesn’t mean it’s a bad read and that someone else might love the book. Sadly, it has become popular lately to be uber snarky in reviews and trash books. I don’t feel that sort of behavior is ever ok. If I absolutely hated a book, you won’t ever hear about if from me. I kind of go with the whole “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” mentality. I rate the books I read by how much I neglected in my daily life while I was reading…yep! Did I ignore all housework and send my husband and son for takeout because I couldn’t put the book down? If so, I LOVED that book. Did it take me three days to read and I got all my laundry done, cooked dinner and baked dessert? Well, I probably didn’t like that book so much. Hope all of that made sense! I tend to babble…..

5) Do you prefer ebooks or physical books?

I never thought I’d say this…..ebooks. Although, if I love an ebook, I will buy a physical book for my bookshelf.

6) What book are you currently reading, and who is it by?

Hard as it Gets by Laura Kaye…loving it!

7) And what book are you planning on reading next, and who is it by?

Too many to choose from! AHHH!! It’s a toss up between Bound by Night by Larissa Ione and Getting Rowdyby Lori Foster.

8) Where can we stal– follow!– you?

Haha! 😀

9) What do you have to say to aspiring/new book bloggers? Do youhave any tips?

Just be you and don’t listen to any of the negativity out there.

10) And finally, what book/s being released in the remainder of 2013are you looking forward to getting your hands on!?

Well, I actually have my hands on the one I’ve been dying for…Reaverby Larissa Ione! AHHH! She just sent itto me the other day and I literally started to cry when I opened the package(and got the obligatory strange look from my son haha!)
